On my business Facebook Page, I read this quote from Jim Rohn:
“You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of. You don’t have charge of the constellations, but you do have charge of whether you read, develop new skills, and take new classes.” — Jim Rohn
I’m a pretty literal thinker; and actually I’m a very concert thinker.
This quote really spoke to me, about my life, and my business.
My take away from his quote came out something like this:
I’m really enjoying riding my bicycle in the Twilight Time Trails that OBRA (Oregon Bicycle Racing Association) puts on every May. We ride as hard and as fast as we can, on a specific course for 15 miles (the course is in the country – and we rarely see a car or truck).
This year, I have been improving my time every week!
The ride is what it is. Sometimes there is a head wind, sometimes it’s coming across the Valley. Sometimes, during the last lap when you are expecting a tail wind, it’s a head wind!
What can I do about the wind?
What do I have control over?
My training, my fueling, my attitude.
Taking responsibility for my “training” I have bettered my speed each week for the last 3 weeks in a row.
Last week, I thought I was doing awful. I thought I was slower, it felt harder, and my tunes kept shorting out! Not a stellar ride, I was sure.
And, I knew my legs were “fresh,” I had gotten enough sleep, I had been hydrating, I had fueled up with healthy products before the race, so there was no “reason” to have a “bad” ride. So I went for it.
Do you know, that I had it all wrong?
I had improved my time, in spite of me!
After I saw the times, I thought, what if I had quit?
What if I had let the noise between my ears rule the day?
And, I didn’t quit.
I knew I would have to suffer some, and I did, and I made it!
What comes up for you, when you read this quote?
What challenge that you were able to learn from?
